Sworn translation prices and turnaround times
The billing unit is a translation page of 1,125 characters including spaces. The price depends on the language pair, length and urgency; we will agree the total after reviewing the document, before work begins.
The standard turnaround is usually 1–3 working days. Same-day translation is available subject to confirmation of the translator’s availability. We will agree the exact price and turnaround before payment.

Who is a sworn translator
and how do they differ from an ordinary translator?
A sworn translator (tłumacz przysięgły) is a specialist included in the official list maintained by Poland’s Ministry of Justice. They may prepare and certify translations from a foreign language into Polish and from Polish into a foreign language, and provide interpreting.
Listed in the state register
You can check a translator’s authorisation in the Ministry of Justice’s official list. A paper translation bears the translator’s signature and stamp, as well as its entry number in the translator’s register and its source — an original, copy or other document presented. The translation’s register entry number and the translator’s number on the ministry’s list are different details.
When a sworn translation is required
A sworn translation may be required for immigration procedures, civil registration, education or court proceedings. Whether a translation is needed, the accepted language and the submission method depend on the specific procedure; some documents are subject to exceptions.
Article 13 of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator defines the translator’s powers to provide translation and interpreting; Article 18 sets out certification requirements. You can check a specialist through the Ministry of Justice’s Sworn Translators section. Certification does not remove the recipient’s other requirements for the source document and its submission.

Sworn translation and notarisation: what is the difference?
Clients often call a sworn translation a ‘notarised translation’. In Poland, translation and notarial certification are separate services. Check exactly what the recipient requires before ordering.

Sworn translation
An authorised translator prepares or checks the translation and certifies it. A paper copy bears the translator’s signature and stamp; an electronic version may be certified with a qualified electronic signature. The Polish name for this service is tłumaczenie przysięgłe.

Notarial certification
A notary may certify the authenticity of a signature or that a copy corresponds to the document presented. Certification of a translator’s signature does not, by itself, confirm the accuracy of the translation or replace certification by a sworn translator.

An interpreter at a notary’s appointment
If you need to understand a notarial deed and communicate while signing it, arrange interpreting. Agree the interpreter’s role and qualifications with the notary in advance.
Articles 13 and 18 of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator define the translator’s powers; Article 96 of the Law on Notaries covers certification of signatures and copies. When is a sworn translation required in Poland?
Public authorities, courts, universities and other organisations may require a sworn translation. Before ordering, confirm the translation language, type of certification and submission format.

Immigration procedures
For example, when applying for EU long-term resident status, the Podlaskie Voivodeship Office requires a sworn Polish translation of foreign-language documents. An original or appropriately certified copy of the source document is a separate requirement of that procedure.

Education, qualifications and courts
Check the document list with the university, qualification recognition authority or court. Confirm whether a sworn translation is required, which pages and attachments form part of the submission, and the format in which they must be supplied.

Exceptions for EU documents
For certain public documents issued in one EU country and presented in another, a multilingual standard form may avoid the need for a translation if the recipient considers the information sufficient. This does not automatically apply to every document or country.
An example of a specific procedure is the Podlaskie Voivodeship Office’s document requirements for EU long-term resident status. Simplified translation requirements for certain documents within the EU are explained in the summary of Regulation (EU) 2016/1191. Do you need the original for a sworn translation?

The source of the translation
The translator can work from an original or a copy and will identify the source in the certification. Translating a scan does not make it an original or authenticate the source document.

Documents for the institution
The recipient may require the original, a certified copy and the translation. Translating a copy does not remove requirements for the source document. If the translator needs the original, we will agree its delivery and return in advance.
Article 18(2) of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator requires the translator to state whether the translation was made from an original, translation or copy, and whether the translation or copy presented was certified and by whom. This does not mean that any copy is acceptable in every procedure: for example, the voivodeship office sets separate requirements for originals and certified copies.
Sworn translations are available with an electronic signature
A sworn translation can be issued as an electronic document bearing the translator’s qualified electronic signature. Before ordering, check whether the recipient accepts this format and which channel should be used to submit the file.
Article 18(1a) of the Act on the Profession of Sworn Translator permits this form of certification. An electronic translation is a signed file, rather than simply a scan of a stamped paper copy. Agree the format, delivery method and other documents needed for the procedure; electronic certification does not mean that every institution will accept a document sent by ordinary email.
