Briefly about the term

What is called a notarial translation in Poland?

In Poland, “notarial translation” usually refers to a sworn translation (tłumaczenie przysięgłe), certified by a translator on the Polish Ministry of Justice’s official list.

A notary may separately certify the translator’s signature or confirm that a copy matches the original, but does not certify the translation’s accuracy.

Unsure what the institution requires? Send us the requirements and we’ll help clarify them.

What's the difference

How does sworn translation differ from notarization?

In Poland, these are two different procedures. “Notarial translation” is often used informally to mean a sworn translation, but the translator and notary certify different things.

The powers of a sworn translator and the procedure for certification of translation are established law on the profession of sworn translator.

Sworn translation

The translator and the client sign the prepared document
  • The translation is produced by a translator on the official list maintained by Poland’s Ministry of Justice.
  • The translator certifies that the translation matches the original or a copy, records the source and repertory number, then adds their signature and seal.
  • In Polish, this service is called tłumaczenie przysięgłe.

Notarization

A notary certifies documents with a signature and seal
  • A notary certifies the authenticity of a signature or that a copy matches the document presented.
  • If a notary certifies a translator’s signature, they confirm the signature itself, not the accuracy of the translation.
  • The receiving institution determines which format it requires.

Unsure what is required? Send us the institution’s requirements and we’ll clarify them before you order.

Question - answer

Frequently asked questions about notarized translation in Poland

In Polish, it is called tłumaczenie przysięgłe. It is produced and certified by a translator on the official list maintained by Poland’s Ministry of Justice. The completed translation usually bears the translator’s signature and seal.

In Poland, “notarial translation” is often used informally to mean a sworn translation certified by the translator. Notarial certification is a separate procedure: a notary may certify the translator’s signature or a copy of a document, but this does not replace the translation. Check the requirements of the institution receiving your document.

Usually, the translator certifies the translation with their signature and seal, so separate notarial certification is not needed. If the receiving institution specifically requires a signature or copy to be notarised, that must be arranged separately. The notary’s powers are set out in the Notaries Act.

Standard turnaround is usually 1–3 working days. We may be able to complete an urgent translation on the day you contact us, subject to availability. Send a scan or photo for a quote; we will confirm whether the original is needed after checking the document and the recipient’s requirements.

Check the institution’s instructions or ask it to confirm in writing the translation language, type of certification and whether it needs the original. Send us those requirements with a scan of the document and we’ll help you decide what to order.

Yes. Send a scan or clear photos of the document through the form or a messaging app. We’ll confirm the requirements, price and turnaround, then arrange collection from our office or free delivery within Poland.
